There are a variety of DBS checks available to organisations and is mainly led by the industry you operate in and the people you come into contact with. The two most common DBS checks are the Basic DBS Check and the Enhanced DBS Check.
Basic DBS Check
The Basic DBS Check is for anyone and everyone. No matter how big or small your organisation is or the industry you operate in, the new Basic DBS Check empowers you to learn more about the people you are recruiting or already have within your company.
We highly recommend you start with your senior team and those who hold a role of responsibility within your company. At just £40 per Basic DBS Check, we guarantee it’ll be money well spent on ensuring you protect your business and your stakeholders against any threats which could have been identified by carrying out a Basic DBS Check. The process is quick with checks processed within 14 days.
If you use contractors, consultants or anyone else who isn’t directly employed by your company, then think about requesting a Basic DBS Check as part of the tendering process. Contractors and the self-employed should be treated with the same due diligence as your general recruitment programme and by requesting a Basic DBS Check you are further safeguarding your business from any unnecessary risk.
Build the Basic DBS Check into your future recruitment activities and get to know more about your potential employees, temporary staff and contractors before you commit to bringing them into your business.
Enhanced DBS Checks
As the name suggests, enhanced disclosures involve an added level of inspection. In addition to checks with the Police National Computer these checks are searched against local police force records, the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health and are used for roles that involve regularly caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults. Enhanced disclosures may also be issued for those seeking judicial appointments. These certificates typically take 2-8 weeks to be issued from the date that they go onto the DBS’ system.
